The medical industry is easily the sector that requires the greatest amount of data security. Patients Personal Health Information (PHI) is considered the most sacrosanct of information that needs to be protected.
A recent ransomware attack against University Hospital New Jersey, in Newark, was executed through a targeted infiltration that encrypts, previously unencrypted files. The attack exposed more than 240 GB of data that included individuals PHI.
In an interesting back and forth of communication, The University Hospital administrators paid 61.90 bitcoin ($672,744). If Helix22 had been installed, the hospital could have ignored the attack and simply extracted the original encrypted data. The attackers would not have been able to exfiltrate any of the data they tried to access. Ransomware is less of a threat to any firm utilizing Helix22.
